This Friday, April 15th at 9:00 pm Alpha Kappa Psi (a business organization at FHSU) will be hosting a benefit concert at Fire and Ice. The Jared Daniels Band, a country band native to Kansas, will be performing at the club. This is not their first appearance performing in Hays, and it will likely not be their last. The JDB is well-known for helping organizations fundraise for various causes. Last year, they performed at Singers in conjunction with Sigma Chi to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
This year the JDB is helping Alpha Kappa Psi raise money for the Cancer Council of Ellis County. They are doing so in honor of Joan Rumple who was an assistant professor of economics, finance and accounting and advisor for more than 30 years to the Zeta Pi chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi. She played an integral role in advising the chapter as well as teaching accounting classes. Last spring she lost a long and courageous battle to cancer.
In 1986, the Cancer Council of Ellis County was formed out of the need for cancer-related services. The original steering committee decided on an independent cancer agency. The CCEC serves people through financial assistance, equipment loans, nutritional supplement vouchers, and sunscreen education. Additionally, they continue to educate countless Ellis County residents on cancer-related topics.
Brandon Taylor, VP of fundraising for Alpha Kappa Psi says, “I am the most proud having organized this event for a great cause, for philanthropy is very important to me. All proceeds will go back to the CCEC. We are excited to host the Jared Daniels Band here in Hays. We feel this couldn’t be a more fitting way to honor Joan since the concert will be held on tax day, April 15th. I am especially grateful for the community supporting us, including Days Inn of Hays, Western Beverage, Kaiser Liquor, Adams Brown Beran and Ball, and Alpha Kappa Psi alumni.
Tickets cost $5.00 at the door.
