The Delta Zeta Sorority at Fort Hays State University will be hosting its annual Big Man On Campus all-male beauty pageant tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center. Admission to the event is $1 or one non-perishable food item.
Big Man On Campus is Delta Zeta’s main philanthropic project every year, with the proceeds from the event going towards the Painted Turtle Camp and the Starkey Hearing Foundation. Delta Zeta puts on the event as a way to promote awareness and raise funds for people who suffer from hearing loss.
This year participants will be competing for the title of King of the Ocean. The men will showcase their skills in front of a panel of judges who will critique them in the categories of formal wear, swimsuit, talent, and interview. Audience members are able to vote for their favorite to win the Mr. Congeniality Award by putting money in the sand pail of their contestant of choice.
Gabi Swartz, Delta Zeta’s Philanthropy Chair, believes that people who attend Big Man On Campus are in for a night filled with laughter and entertainment. “This year’s participants have great senses of humor and are very involved in various organizations around campus. The contestants are excited to show off their talents to the judges and audience members.”
Swartz says that the show will have everything from singing and dancing to dramatic readings, and will have something that everyone can enjoy. “This is Delta Zeta’s most highly anticipated event every year, and we hope to bring in as many people as we can. My hope is that audience members not only come to support the contestants but also realize what a great cause this benefits.”
