Fort Hays State welcomes Northeastern State to Hays this weekend for a three-game MIAA series starting on Friday (Apr. 1). First pitch on Friday will be at 6 pm, Saturday at 2 pm, and Sunday at noon. The Tigers enter the weekend coming off a mid-week loss to Washburn, and now sit at 13-15 overall and 7-10 in the MIAA. Northeastern State comes to town with an overall record of 15-12, 9-8 in the MIAA.
All three games will be available on radio. The games on Friday and Sunday will be on 1400 AM (KAYS) and the game Saturday will be on 103.3 FM (KJLS). Links for the audio of each broadcast are available at the links above.
Offense has been strong for the Tigers all season long. As a team they currently sit third in the MIAA with 333 hits, and fifth with a .325 batting average. Also, the Tigers have seven players on their roster with a minimum of 10 starts batting over .320.
The table setters, Ty Redington and Caleb Cherryholmes, are doing a good job at the top of the order getting on base and into scoring position. They have scored 30 and 31 runs respectively. Producing a majority of runs is the duo of Austin Unrein and Alex Weiss. The pair sits first and second in the MIAA in hits, Unrein with 49 and Weiss with 48, and the two have combined for 61 RBI this season. Connor Ross has also produced well at the plate, sitting sixth in the conference with 43 hits along with 30 RBI.
The RiverHawks enter the weekend coming off of a victory over Pittsburg State on Tuesday (Mar. 29) by the score of 9-6. Eric Kirkpatrick leads the way offensively for NSU and currently sits third in the MIAA with a .420 batting average, and fourth in RBI with 38.
