FHSU Sports Information Department
Fort Hays State Wrestling has been honored among the top 20 teams nationally on the D2WCA All-Academic Teams for the 2015-16 season. Fort Hays State holds a team GPA of 3.186, which ranks 15th nationally. Three Tigers also earned All-Academic Team individual honors, which includes Jon Inman, Noah Killip, and Jacob Kay.
Inman was named to the All-Academic First Team for the third time in his career. He adds this to his All-America performance on the mat this year as he finished fifth nationally at the NCAA Championships with an overall record of 38-4 in the 184-pound weight class. Inman holds a 3.85 GPA as a Justice Studies major at FHSU. He has an overall collegiate wrestling record of 113-24.
Killip earned All-Academic First Team honors for the first time in his career. He was a second-team selection last year. Killip finished his senior season with a solid record of 17-6 as he battled through injuries during the entire season. Killip was a national qualifier for the Tigers as a junior and finished with a career record of 94-34. He holds a 3.33 GPA as a Health and Human Performance major at FHSU.
Kay earns honorable mention status on the All-Academic Team for the second straight year. He is a Finance major at FHSU with a GPA of 3.19. Kay finished the season with a record of 6-7 at 141 pounds.
To receive honors as a team, the team GPA is calculated by averaging the cumulative grade point averages of 10 wrestlers from each team, of which eight of those wrestlers must have competed in their team’s NCAA Division II National Qualifying Tournament.
To receive honors as an individual, he must have a minimum 3.0-grade point average on a 4.0 scale. He must also be in at least his second full year at his school, be a varsity member on his team or a key reserve, demonstrate a degree of skill and have a minimum of at least two letters of recommendation (academic advisor and coach) submitted on his behalf.
