This meeting of the Student Government Association was called to order on Thursday, February 11th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Black and Gold Room, Memorial Union on the campus of Fort Hays State University.
Legislation
Old Business: Bill 15/S/114 presented by Appropriations was up for second reading at Thursday night’s meeting. The bill replaced by bill 15/S/100. The new bill was passed by unanimous consent.
New Business: Bills 16/S/101-16/S/103 were up for first reading at Thursday night’s meeting.
Reports
Executive:
President Ulises Gonzalez told senators that he has been working on constitution changes to present to the Senate Affairs.
Vice President Molly Morgan informed senators on how they are to receive their office hours for this week.
Legislative Affairs Director Emily Brandt shared with senators that Tiger Day at the Capitol will take place on February 23rd, and departure for the trip will be on the 22nd at 3 p.m. Brandt also added that Life 911 passed in the House, and has been sent to the governor’s desk to be signed and approved.
Committee:
The Appropriations Committee had one bill up for second reading and plans to have three up for first reading next week.
The Senate Affairs Committee have put up Magaly Lozoya to fill the empty senate seat in the College of Arts and Sciences. They are also working on updating the bylaws.
Student Relations and Involvement Committee did not have a report for this week’s meeting.
The Legislative and Political Action Committee is working on updating the annual calendar for allocations.
Installation of New Members
No new members were installed at Thursday’s meeting.
Speakers/Open Forum
Guest speaker FHSU Provost, Dr. Graham Glynn came to discuss with senators the changes that will be taking place to the Fort Hays Commencement Ceremony for this year. Graduation will take place in two parts this year. On Friday, the Colleges of Business, Education, Science & Technology, and Mathematics will have their ceremony. On Saturday, the Colleges of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Health and Behavioral Sciences will have their ceremony. Graduation is set to take place on May 13th and May 14th.
During open forum, President Gonzalez shared information about his meeting with the Gun Policy Committee, and asked for student volunteers to sign-up for four sub-committees: Storage Residential Life, Events Building Committee, Training Committee, and Recruitment committee.
