KEARNEY, Neb. – Fort Hays State’s road losing streak reached five games while losing their third straight overall in a 90-64 setback at Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday (Jan. 30). The Tigers were in the game for about 15 minutes until UNK used a 17-6 run to close the first half and take a 17-point halftime lead.
The Lopers used two 11-0 runs in the first half to gain control of the game. With FHSU up 20-19, the Lopers used the first of the two runs to build a 10-point lead at the 5:53 mark, then used another to turn a six-point lead into a 17-point lead at the 2:07 mark. The Tigers never pulled closer than 15 the remainder of the game.
The Lopers shot the ball well, going 53.6 percent from the field and 47.4 percent (9-of-19) beyond the 3-point line. FHSU was held to just 39.6 percent shooting and just a 33.3 percent effort beyond the arc.
Rob Davis led a balanced scoring effort for the Tigers with 10 points. Hadley Gillum had eight and Dom Samac had seven. Samac led the team in rebounds with seven while Craig Nicholson dished out a team-high six assists.
Connor Beranek led UNK with 28 points, followed by Trey Lansman with 15, and Lane Rohrich and Ethan Brozek each with 13. Beranek added 12 rebounds for a double-double.
Fort Hays State looks to regroup at home on Thursday (Feb.4) where it has won six straight against Central Missouri. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
