Tigers Will Remain Ranked No. 1 Through the Holidays

FHSU Sports Information Department

Fort Hays State Women’s Basketball will remain the No. 1 ranked team in the nation through the holidays as the WBCA will not release another national poll until January 5, 2016. Fort Hays State will play at least two more games as the No. 1 ranked team in the country when it hosts Pittsburg State (Jan. 2) and Missouri Southern (Jan. 4) in Hays after the turn of the year.

The WBCA Poll traditionally takes a three-week break from its usual week-by-week release from mid-December to the first Tuesday in January. Though Fort Hays State lost at Southwest Baptist on December 19, they will get to keep their top ranking through the holiday break and the first week back on the court in January.

The No. 1, No. 3 (Emporia State), and No. 4 (Drury) teams in the nation all lost last week, so it will be interesting to see how games play out in the return from the holidays to shape the January 5 rankings.

Fort Hays State is enjoying its first-ever No. 1 ranking in the WBCA Division II Poll. The Tigers took over the top spot in the country on December 8. Below is the poll from December 15, 2015.
