PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Fort Hays State track and field competed for the first time this year at the Pitt State Crimson and Gold Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 5). Two Tigers, Jake Morrow and Jordan Carroll, hit provisional qualifying marks while Tregg Rodriguez and Rodrigo Alves were able to finish in the top three in their respective events as well.
Carroll took second place in the triple jump with a mark of 47′ 5.75” while Morrow cleared 15’11.25” in the pole vault for fourth place. Both efforts landed each on the NCAA provisional qualifiers list.
Competing in his first collegiate event, freshman Tregg Rodriguez took home third-place honors in the high jump clearing the height of 6’6″ (1.98m). Rodrigo Alves also took third in the 300-meter dash with the time of 35.84, just 0.2 seconds behind the winner.
Kelly Wycoff was the only women’s athlete for FHSU to finish in the top three of an event. She took second and set a new school record in the 300-meter dash in 40.89 seconds. She topped the old record of 41.79 seconds by Hanna Pfannenstiel in 2013.
The Tigers now look ahead to the Charlie Foster Pre-Holiday Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 11-12) in Kearney, Neb.
