The Tigers were able to limit a team averaging 89 points per game to just 76, but at times in the first half gave up too many easy baskets. After FHSU built a 12-point lead at 23-11, Newman went on a 22-8 run to take the lead by two, 33-31, with 8:18 remaining in the opening half. Over the final six minutes of the first half, FHSU went on a tear from 3-point range and closed on a 19-2 run to build a 16-point lead by halftime at 55-39. The Tigers hit five 3-point field goals over the final six minutes of the half.Despite trimming the Tiger lead to 10 with a 6-0 run to start the second half, Newman never cut the Tiger advantage inside 10 points the remainder of the game. FHSU shot over 60 percent from the field in both halves.
Dom Samac led the Tigers with 20 points and eight rebounds. Rob Davis had 15 points and Kenny Enoch added 14. Craig Nicholson dished out a team-high eight assists, while Kyler Kinnamon had six.
James Pegues led Newman with 21 points and five rebounds. Also reaching double figures in scoring were Taylor Schieber with 14, Jarvis Williams with 12, and Jalen Love with 11. Newman finished at 44.2 percent as a team from the field, including a 34.8 percent effort beyond the 3-point line.
The Tigers, now 4-0 overall, host Sterling College on Saturday (Nov. 28). Tipoff is set for 7 pm at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
