LINDSBORG, Kan. – Fort Hays State sent several wrestlers to compete in the Bethany College Open on Saturday (Nov. 7). Jon Inman (184 pounds) and Anthony Calderon (133 pounds) were champions at their respective weights for the Tigers, while Brandon Ball wrestled unattached and won the 141 pound weight class.
The Tigers had nine placers overall at the tournament with the three champions, four third-place finishers, and two fourth-place finishers. Three of the placers were wrestling unattached. Earning third-place finishes were Noah Killip (149), Bradley Little (157), Kregg Clarke (165), and Rakim Dean (184, unattached). Fourth-place finishers were Derrick Gates (165) and Christian Lance (197, unattached).
Inman went 4-0 on his way to the 184-pound title. He racked up two falls, a technical fall, and a decision. In the opening round, he defeated Tim Johnson of Barton Community College by fall at 1:19. He then posted an 18-0 technical fall shutout of Reggie Kinsey from Missouri Valley College. His closest match was a 7-6 win in the semifinals over Nicholas Meck of York College, then he took the finals with a fall in 5:00 over Evan Hudson.
Calderon went 3-0 to win the 133-pound title. He edged Kaiden Hudson of Bacone College in his first match 4-3, then posted a fall over Matt Landgraff of Oklahoma City University in the semifinals. He defeated Trey Trujillo of Hastings College in the finals 5-3.
Ball won the 141-pound class by going 4-0. He pinned James Landoll of Oklahoma City in his first match, then cruised to an 8-1 win over Abel Villa Moreno of Bacone. In the semifinals, Ball edged Joshua Lopez of York College 1-0, then claimed a 4-2 sudden victory over Taylor Rich of Hastings in the finals.
