CANYON, Texas – For the second time this season, Fort Hays State knocked off West Texas A&M in double overtime on Saturday (Oct. 24). The 24th-ranked Tigers took the match 2-1, moving to 10-3-1 overall while the Buffs dropped to 9-5 overall.

The Tigers knocked off West Texas A&M earlier this year in Hays in a thrilling comeback win. FHSU scored the winning goal in that match with six seconds remaining to avoid a tie. On Saturday, the Tigers did not need quite as much time as David Lucio headed the ball in off a corner from Mauricio Castorino at 101:29 in the second overtime period.

The Tigers scored first in the match when Maurizio Costa beat the WTAMU keeper in a one-on-one situation off a nice pass from Castorino in the 55th minute. However, the Buffs countered with the equalizer in the 68th minute. Neither team could find the net for the next 33 minutes before the game-winner by Lucio.

The Tigers and Buffs were even in shot attempts with 14 each. Michael Yantz recorded three saves at goalkeeper and moved to 10-3-1 on the season. Patrick Satorie took the loss in goal for WTAMU.

The Tigers hit the road next week for conference matches at Southwest Baptist and Northeastern State.
