Perkins Fires Consecutive Rounds in the 70s; Tigers Finish 14th at UCO Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Fort Hays State women’s golf finished 14th at the UCO Classic, held October 5-6 at the Lincoln Park East Golf Course. Hannah Perkins led the way for FHSU, tying for 22nd with a two-round total of 150.

Perkins has now put together three consecutive rounds in the 70s in tournament competition, showing she is improving quickly in her freshman year with more rounds of competition. She finished with a 77 in her last round of the MIAA Fall Preview, then shot her lowest collegiate round yet on Monday with a 1-over par 72. She cooled a bit on Tuesday with a 78, but put together her best tournament total so far this season by eight strokes.

Quillen Eichhorn also put together a good tournament with two of her lowest collegiate rounds, carding 84 and 79. She dipped into the 70s for the first time in her collegiate career and tied for 63rd with a 163 total. Hadley Tharp was 80th with rounds of 89 and 86, while Hannah Karasiuk rounded out the FHSU scoring with rounds of 89 and 88. Lexie Schaben also competed and had rounds of 91 and 89.

The Tigers as a team improved three strokes on day two with a 331. Paired with a 334 first round, they shot 665. Northeastern State won the tournament at 580, while host Central Oklahoma was one stroke back at 581. Marla Souvannasing of Central Oklahoma went low to win the tournament individually, leading wire-to-wire. After a 1-under par 70 on day one, she shot a 5-under 66 on day two to finish 6-under par overall. Baylee Price of Northeastern State was the only other player to finish under par at 1-under.

This tournament wraps up the fall portion of the 2015-16 season for the FHSU women.
