MILLTOWN, N.J. – Fort Hays State quarterback Treveon Albert was recognized as a Dream Bowl Player of the Week on Monday, October 5 for his efforts in Week 5. Albert had a tremendous offensive performance in Fort Hays State’s 35-30 win over Washburn, rushing for 207 yards and passing for 154. He is the first FHSU quarterback to rush for over 200 yards since October 30, 2004, when Reed Gottula rushed for 208 against Nebraska-Kearney.
Albert had a hand in four touchdowns for the Tigers, rushing for two and passing for two. He had two rushes over 50 yards, both key in setting up his two throwing touchdowns on the evening of seven yards to Shaquille Cooper and three yards to Andrew Flory. His touchdown rushes were from 19 and 27 yards out in the first half, helping the Tigers build a 28-17 lead by halftime. Albert averaged 13.8 yards per carry on 15 attempts and completed 17 of 31 passes.
Albert has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the last three games, going for 144 against Lindenwood, 107 against Pittsburg State, and 207 against Washburn. His rushing average is now at 122 yards per game, giving FHSU the top two rushers in the MIAA. FHSU running back Shaquille Cooper leads the conference in rushing, averaging 135.8 yards per game.
The Dream Bowl, held in January in Virginia, is an all-star game that features some of the best players from FCS, Division II, and Division III of the NCAA.
