Fort Hays State Women’s Tennis picked up a pair of wins on Friday (Sept. 25) in Nebraska. The Tigers defeated Doane College 5-4, then Concordia University 7-2 to wrap up the fall portion of their 2015-16 schedule. FHSU finished 4-3 overall in the fall.

Alina Villalovos held the key to Fort Hays State’s one point win at Doane. She won a competitive match at No. 3 singles by scores of 7-5 and 6-4 to break a 4-4 tie between the teams.
FHSU went up 2-1 after doubles play. The No. 1 team of Laura Jimenez-Lendinez and Jessica Johnson blanked their opponent 8-0 and the No. 3 team of Haley Weidemann and Taylor Noel won 8-1. The No. 2 team of Villalovos and Raven Dick fell 8-3.
The Tigers took a 4-1 lead as Jimenez-Lendinez (No. 1) and Weidemann (No. 5) each won their singles matches, but Doane stormed back with wins at the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6 positions in straight sets, putting the focus on the No. 3 match. Johnson had a competitive match at No. 2, falling by scores of 7-5, 7-5.
Fort Hays State 7, Concordia (Neb.) 2
Fort Hays State defeated Concordia by sweeping doubles play and clinched the match early in singles play to secure its winning record in the fall.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Jimenez-Lendinez and Johnson won 8-1, while the No. 3 team of Weidemann and Noel won 8-2. The No. 2 team of Villalovos and Dick had a more competitive match, but won 8-5.
All singles matches were contested in straight sets. Jimenez-Lendinez (No. 1), Villalovos (No. 3), Weidemann (No. 5), and Noel (No. 6) all claimed wins. All four posted a shutout in at least one of their sets. Weidemann completely blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Johnson (No. 2), and Dick (No. 4) dropped their contests.
The Tigers return to action in the spring on March 2 at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan.
