Fort Hays State hosts West Texas A&M in men’s soccer on Tuesday night (Sept. 22) at FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays. Each team enters the 7 pm match as winners of two straight. FHSU is 4-1 overall, while WTAMU is 3-3 overall. The Tigers are ranked No. 12 in the latest NSCAA Division II Poll, but a new poll comes out on Tuesday prior to the match.
The Tigers won their home opener this past Friday by a score of 4-0 over Lubbock Christian. Anthony Hernandez had a hat trick in the game, scoring three of Fort Hays State’s four goals. Mauricio Castorino also had a goal in the match and tied Maurizio Costa for the team lead, each with four. Castorino leads the Tigers in points with 10. Michael Yantz is 4-1 in goal so far this year for FHSU, allowing 1.4 goals per match.
West Texas A&M is coming off a 7-0 win over Southern Nazarene at home on Saturday. Austin Henderson leads the Buffs in goals with three, but 12 players on their team have netted goals this season.
The Tigers and Buffs split their season series in 2014. FHSU defeated WTAMU by a score of 1-0 in Canyon, Texas, then WTAMU won by the same count later in the year in Hays.
