PUEBLO, Colo. – Fort Hays State Tennis opened the 2015-16 season on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 11-12) in Pueblo, Colo. The Tigers played three matches against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents, but could not find a win. FHSU fell 8-1 to CSU-Pueblo on Friday before falling 9-0 to Colorado Mesa and 8-1 to Metro State on Saturday.
Taylor Noel (No. 6 singles) was the only Tiger to gain a point on Friday against CSU-Pueblo with a forfeit win in her singles match. Jessica Johnson (No. 2 singles) looked strong early in her match, winning the first set 6-0, but then dropped the second 6-2 and fell 10-7 in the tiebreaking set. Johnson teamed with Laura Jimenez-Lendinez at No. 1 doubles and they nearly earned a point, falling in a tiebreak 9-8 (7-5).
On Saturday, Jimenez-Lendinez scored a point for the Tigers by winning her No. 1 singles match in the meeting with Metro State. She defeated Courtney Wright 6-1, 6-4 for her first collegiate win. Johnson had a solid effort in her singles match against Colorado Mesa. She fell in the first set 6-3, but forced a second straight tiebreak that she came up short in.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday (Sept. 19) at home against Hastings College at 1 pm.
