The campus of Fort Hays State University will soon be resonating with young musicians as the High Plains Music Camp starts on Sunday July 12 and runs until Saturday July 18. The High Plains Music Camp was founding in 1947 by the late Harold G. Palmer, a Fort Hays State University graduate and long time music faculty member. The camp is entering its 68th year allowing students the chance to study with exceptional musicians from across the country.
Fort Hays State University Music faculty that will be taking part in this year’s camp include: Ivalah Allen, Voice, Ben Cline, Cello, Terry Crull, Choir/Music Theatre, Brad Dawson, Trumpet, Luke Johnson, Guitar, Jeff Jordan, Conductor, Dean Kranzler, Percussion, Ben Markley, Jazz/Jazz Piano, Joseph Perniciaro, Opera, Kristin Pisano, Clarinet, Timothy Rolls, Music Tech/Theory, Shokhrukh Sadikov, Viola, Hilary Shepard, Flute, Lane Weaver, Low Brass, Kay Werth, Double Reeds, Tomme Williams, Theatre.
This year’s guest artists include:
Maestro Theodore Kuchar most recently of the Fresno Philharmonic in Fresno, California.
Gretchen Harrison, assistant director in the Allegro Community Children’s Choir in Overland Park, KS.
Rodney Jones, jazz guitarist with such jazz greats as Dizzy Gillespie and Lena Horne, television work on shows like The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Showtime at the Apollo, and The Apprentice, and faculty at the Juilliard School since 2007.
Pete Zimmer, jazz drummer, band leader, composer and educator.
