Former standout Tiger Basketball player Dominique Jones has recently joined the Harlem Globetrotters and will be in action on Friday night in Kearney, Nebraska at the Viaero Event Center. Jones, a native of Harlem, N.Y., joins the world famous team with the nickname of “Hot Shot”.
One of the top point guards in FHSU men’s basketball history, Jones played two years at FHSU from 2009-2011. He was a State Farm/NABC All-America selection as a senior in 2010-11, one of just 16 players nationally selected to the team. That season, he helped the Tigers reach as high as No. 3 in the national rankings, an MIAA Tournament Championship, and the semifinals of the South Central Regional in the MIAA Tournament. As a senior, he averaged 17.9 points and 6.3 assists per game.
Nearly scoring 1,000 points in his two-year career at FHSU, Jones had 983 career points with the Tigers, helping the team to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. He averaged 5.1 assists per game in his career, which ranks fourth in school history, and had a total of 324, which ranks sixth all-time. Known for his one-handed free-throw shooting style, Jones shot 80 percent at the charity stripe in his career, which is fifth-best in school history. He also shot 40.2 percent from beyond the 3-point line in his career as a Tiger, draining 132 shots from beyond the arc.
Jones is one of three All-America selections to play under current FHSU head coach Mark Johnson and one of 25 All-America selections all time in FHSU Men’s Basketball history.
