Wrestlers head for NCAA West Super Regional to compete for spot in NCAA Championships

No. 17 Fort Hays State University continues postseason competition this weekend at the NCAA Division II West Super Regional, held Friday and Saturday at Massari Arena in Pueblo, Colo.The Tigers are new to the West Region this season, and are one of 14 teams sending wrestlers to face off for a chance to make the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo., next month. The top four place winners in each bracket will advance to the Championships.

Four MIAA schools (Central Oklahoma, FHSU, Nebraska-Kearney and Newman) are in attendance, and five of the 14 teams are ranked in the Division II Wrestling Coaches Top 20 Rankings – UNK (No. 7), Western State (No. 8), Colorado Mesa (No. 10), UCO (No. 11) and FHSU (No. 17). California Baptist is receiving votes in the poll as well.

In looking at the individual rankings, each weight class in the West Super Regional has at least one nationally wrestler, with eight classes have two or more ranked wrestlers.

Brackets with three ranked wrestlers are at 133 and 157 pounds. FHSU has three wrestlers ranked in the Top 8 of their weight classes competing this weekend: No. 6 Noah Killip (141), No. 8 Jon Inman (184) and No. 5 Trey Page (285). Killip is the only ranked wrestler in his weight class, while Inman and Page are one of two in their brackets.
