Members of the FHSU Cross Country team honored for academic achievement

The Fort Hays State Women’s and Men’s Cross Country Teams were honored academically by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association on Wednesday. Both teams received the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team distinction, while four women and two men earned All-Academic Individual status for 2014.

The teams had nearly identical grade point averages, the women’s team at 3.37 and the men’s team at 3.36. Programs must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.00 or greater and scored at an NCAA Division II regional meet to qualify for the award. A total of 128 women’s team and 93 men’s teams in Division II earned the distinction.

Earning the individual honor on the women’s team were Micki Krzesinski, Alex Keehn, Sydney Lower, and Chelsea Jackson. Earning the individual honor on the men’s team were Isaac Williams and Troy Wineinger. Individual honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and must have finished among the top 30 percent of total eligible runners at his or her regional championship (total Division II teams in the region multiplied by seven runners per team) or in the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.
