Fort Hays State received 26 votes in the first regular season version of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 poll, released Monday, Nov. 25 by the organization.
FHSU (3-1) started the year with a regional victory over Bemidji State (71-65) before narrowly missing an upset against then-No. 10 Concordia-St. Paul (70-68). Over the past two games, FHSU has won by an average of 61 points, setting a school record for points in a game with a 120-39 victory over McPherson before taking down Cameron, 93-52 earlier this week.
Joining Fort Hays State in the poll from the MIAA are six other teams, including four ranked in the Top 25. Emporia State (No. 2), Pittsburg State (No. 10), Washburn (No. 18) and Central Missouri (No. 24) are nationally ranked, while Missouri Southern (14 votes) and Northeastern State (eight votes) join FHSU in the receiving votes section.
The Tigers are in action Tuesday (Nov. 25) evening in Wichita, Kan., taking on Newman at 5:30 p.m.
