Mitch McConnell Takes Early Lead In Kentucky Senate Race, CNN calls race

CNN calls Kentucky Senate race for Mitch McConnell, Republican Incumbent, and Senate Majority Leader who grabbed an early lead in the 2014 Kentucky Midterm Election over Democrat opponent Alison Lundergan Grimes as polls close across the state.

As the first votes are counted in Kentucky, Incumbent McConnell pulls ahead of his opposition Alison Grimes. Polls leading up to election day show McConnell winning, but the race is closer than usual.

In a poll done by Public Policy Polling, 50% of those polled chose McConnell, Grimes was shown at 42%, and 5% of those polled were undecided.

Even with polls showing McConnell ahead, disapproval ratings for McConnell were thought could potentially complicate a race that he would normally win. In the same poll by Public Policy Polling, McConnell’s disapproval rating is listed as 50% with only 39% approval.
