Movember v. No Shave November

This month is “Movember”, or “No Shave November” to raise awareness about men’s health issues, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health problems.

Across America in October, pink was everywhere as the nation commemorated Breast Cancer Awareness month. In November, the focus shifts to men’s health issues.

The Movember idea started in Australia in 2003, as friends were discussing fashion and recurring trends. They decide to talk other friends into growing mustaches with them and choose the month of November, renaming it Movember.

Since its beginning, the Movember community has raised $559 million funded over 800 programs in 21 countries. This work is saving and improving the lives of men affected by prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.

The Movember Foundation challenges men to grow mustaches during Movember, to start discussions about men’s health problems, and raise vital funds for its programs. To date, 4 million mustaches have been grown worldwide.

Although closely related, Movember should not be confused with No Shave November. Both ideas involve people not shaving facial hair. Movember, however, focuses on the mustache. No Shave November is when men and women agree not to shave their beards or legs. While Movember does not exclude women from participating, No Shave November is a little broader.

So whichever you decide, Movember or No Shave November, the Tiger Media Network would like to see your efforts. Post your pictures on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/tigermedianet and our Twitter page, @tigermedianet, so we can all enjoy the fun!
