The Fort Hays State Women’s Basketball team tips off its 2014-15 campaign with an exhibition matchup at Division I opponent, Kansas, on Sunday (Nov. 2) in Lawrence, Kan. Game time is set for 2 p.m. from Allen Fieldhouse.

As a team, FHSU averaged 77.7 points last season, leading the MIAA with a +17.8 scoring margin while posting its third consecutive 20-win season for the first time in program history. The Tigers reached the MIAA semifinals for the second consecutive year, and just missed an NCAA Tournament berth, finishing as the ninth ranked team in the NCAA Central Region (with the Top 8 teams advancing).

Senior Kate Lehman anchors a strong group of 12 returners as a WBCA and Division II Bulletin All-American honorable mention selection in 2013-14, and is the defending two-time MIAA Defensive Player of the Year. Lehman enters the season 160 blocks short of breaking the NCAA Division II record for career blocks (533), with 374 through three seasons of play. The Newton, Kan., native led the Tigers last season with a double-double average of 16.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per game, tallying 20 total double-doubles and two triple-doubles.

Beth Bohuslavky joined Lehman as one of two Tigers to start all 29 games last year, and led the MIAA (while finishing third nationally) with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.69. Bohuslavsky paced the Tigers with 27.4 minutes per game, adding 94 assists with a 6.9 points per game average.

KU reached the second round of last year’s Big 12 Tournament, finishing 13-19 overall and 5-13 in the Big 12. KU is led by seniors Asia Boyd, Chelsea Gardner, Natalie Knight and Bunny Williams. Gardner and Knight were all-conference selections last year, with Gardner leading the team in points (17.1 ppg) and rebounds (8.4 rpg). Knight hit 40.9 percent of her attempts from long range, while Boyd added 11.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Sunday’s game is the only exhibition for FHSU this season, as the Tigers’ regular season begins on Friday, Nov. 14 in St. Paul, Minn., against Bemidji State.
