Poppies to be handed out to remember Veterans Day

On Friday Nov. 7, volunteers from Fort Hays State University will be handing out poppies at both Hays’ Dillions locations from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to remind the community members of Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Veterans Day is a holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Each year, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs hosts the Veterans Day National Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, where the ceremony starts with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns and then moves inside the Memorial Amphitheater where a parade is held. Although Veterans Day isn’t until Nov. 11, poppies will be handed out on Nov. 7 to remind the community about Veterans Day.

The American Democracy Project, Tigers in Service and the Student Government Association are partnering up to host a Veterans Day Ceremony in FHSU’s Sheridan Hall lobby at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 11. The ceremony will remember and honor all veterans.

The ceremony is open to the public. For more information contact co-coordinator Vivian Agnew at (785) 628-5399 or by email at adp@fhsu.edu.
