Fort Hays State University will host lectures and workshops for the Kansas Artists and Craftsmen Association conference in Rarick Hall on the FHSU Campus from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, giving a look into the professional art world as high profile speakers gather at FHSU.
Registration and introductions will kick off the events for the conference beginning on at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
“How to Deface Adversity–Where the Wu Tang and Worcester Porcelain Intersect” is Friday’s keynote lecture. This lecture will be given by Roberto Lugo. Lugo will also conduct two lectures, “Exquisite Narrative” and “Exposing Oneself.”
Saturday’s lecture, “The Artist as Craftsman” is being presented by Paul Andrew Wandless. Wandless is an assistant professor of art at Harold Washington College in Chicago.
“Screen and Relief Printing on Clay” and “How to Write an Article,” are the workshops that Wandless will present.
“Clay and Steel– A Hot Combination” with Virginia McKinney, “Fiber Fusion and Thread Painting” with Marilyn Grisham, and “Crochet Connection” with Stephanie Lanter, are the other workshops being offered during the conference.
A silent auction is also planned from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, with proceeds supporting the KACA. The silent auction will feature original pieces donated by members of the Kansas Artists and Craftsmen Association.
Original works created by members of the KACA are currently being shown in the Moss-Thorns Gallery of Art in Rarick Hall, Room 102. These works are for sale, and are being shown through the end of the conference.
