Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul is in Kansas today campaigning for incumbent governor Sam Brownback along with Senator Pat Roberts.
Both Brownback and Roberts have seen trouble in their campaigns with polling showing no clear leads in either race. The campaign for governor has been especially contentious as his challenger, Democrat Paul Davis, has been endorsed by numerous high ranking Republicans in the state.
“The Republicans who have joined this group – did not do it for me or Jill,” Davis said. “They did it for the future of Kansas. They did it for our kids and our economy. They did it for our struggling families and neighbors. They did it for their grandchildren and their great grandchildren. All of us – and folks all across the state – know Kansas can do better.”
The Davis campaign has been a media favorite and Sunday The Hays Daily News endorsed Davis, the latest in newspaper endorsements following all of the other major newspapers in the state.
The latest gubernatorial poll from YouGov has Brownback in the lead, while the average polling continues to have Davis slightly in the lead, according to Real Clear Politics, but generally within the margin of error, making the race currently a toss up. Only two polls this month have cleared the margin of error, the first was a Fox news poll from October showing Brownback leading by six, and the other was released last Friday by Rasmussen reports, showing Davis up by seven.
The race for Roberts’ senate seat is extremely close as well. Polling for that race reflects the governors race with only two public polls clearing the margin of error, Fox News found Roberts up by five early in the month, and Rasmussen polling shows Independent Greg Orman pulling ahead by five last week.
