The #AgProvides food drive sponsored by Fort Hays State University’s Block and Bridle club has officially ended, but the message is still being shared.
Over 500 cans were donated to the Tiger Food Exchange through this campaign.
“This campaign was, and continues to be, important because it is our job to advocate for agriculture,” said Morgan Hammel, president of Block and Bridle. “We want consumers to know the truth behind agriculture and not the myths people like to portray.
Ag producers and everyone else involved in agriculture deserve recognition for all the hard work we put in because they are feeding the world”.
“I was very happy to see the amount of students that got involved and contributed to the cause,” said Garrett Steed, Block and Bridle advisor.
#AgProvides was sparked by the announcement of PETA’s new campaign “Fast Against Slaughter” targeting the agriculture industry.
PETA’s campaign is being released Oct. 2.
Graduate students from Texas Tech University created the campaign to encourage schools across the country to spread positive facts about agriculture.
Block and Bridle joined the campaign and has been sponsoring a food drive for the past two weeks and held a table at the Student Union with a slideshow stating agricultural statistics.
“I see #AgProvides being an annual event,” Steede said. “Hopefully, next year we can surpass our 500 can donation.
As long as people are hungry, agriculture will be there to provide every day.”
