Webinar hosted to give information on 2014 Farm Bill

The Ellis County Extension Office is offering a webinar covering the information in the 2014 Farm Bill and the commodity program computer decision aid tool developed by Oklahoma State University and Kansas State University Risk Management specialists.

Art Barnaby and Mykel Taylor are conducting the webinar hosted by the Department of Agriculture Economics at K-State.

The webinar will be broadcast Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. at the Hays Agricultural Research Center, and is open to the public. Registration will cost $25 and the deadline to register is Oct. 1 at 4 p.m., or when 200 lines are full. Instructions for login will be sent following registration.

“This webinar is just a preview to provide information to farmers before they have to choose between the two programs,” said Stacy Campbell, agriculture extension agent at Ellis County. “There will be more information sessions throughout the state starting in January”.

The hour-long webinar will update farmers and others on the tradeoffs between selecting the Price Loss Coverage versus Agricultural Risk Coverage. Farmers will have to choose one when they sign up for the bill.

Barnaby and Taylor will also be discussing the Oklahoma State University-Kansas State University commodity program computer decision aid, an Excel-based decision aid that is expected to help farmers run numbers to see which commodity program best fits their operation. The model is funded with grant money and is free to the public.

A recording of the webinar will be available for the same fee after the event. Those who are interested in receiving the recording need to register for the webinar in order to obtain it.
