Director of the student health center position is open

Aug. 28 was the last day for Tina Scott as director of the Student Health Center because she accepted a new managerial position at Fresenius Medical Care. “My new position will be an area manager for Fresenius Medical Care, which consists of overseeing six different clinics, with Salina being my home base,” Scott said.

Scott has been the Director of the Student Health Center since January 2012.

“Tina and her staff have done a great job moving the Student Health Center forward and serving more students,”said Kenton Olliff, director of the Kelly Center. “She will be missed.”

“My position as the director of the Student Health Center has provided me the ability as a leader to take on opportunities with a better understanding of work flow process such as managing the budget, sustaining a positive culture, and skills that will make me successful in my new position,” Scott said.

Dorothy Knoll will return to serve as Interim Director of Student Health until a replacement  is found. “Knoll has many years of experience supervising student health center and has served as our interim director in the past,” Olliff said. Scott’s absence leaves a position needing to be filled.

Although the Student Health Center is in need of a new manager, the search cannot begin until September. “We have had people express interest after they found out Tina was leaving, but the official search for the position will not begin until around the end of September,” Olliff said. The hiring process usually takes around four to six weeks to complete.

Some of the qualifications being sought after are medical clinic experience, a bachelor’s in nursing, public health, or a closely related field, but a master’s degree in the aforementioned areas is preferred. Along with education requirements, other qualifications include a minimum of five years of experience in a clinic setting and a minimum of three years providing supervision to staff. According to Olliff, applicants can expect a bevy of responsibilities if chosen as manager.

“The Director of the Health Center in cooperation with the Vice President for Student Affairs, will carry out administrative functions such as personnel, program management, development of goals/objectives and budget,” Olliff said.”The director administratively supervises the Health Center staff, serves as a resource person for wellness issues on campus and serves on campus committees and participates with the Division of Student Affairs Team.”
