Although Halloween wasn’t until Saturday, students and community members alike visited the Memorial Union on Thursday for a little bit of fright and a lot of fun. The Haunted Union had visitors waiting in line, building anticipation for what lay behind the entrance doors.

One of the many brave people who dared to enter the Haunted Union, Seth Hammes, shared his excitement for the event as he waited in a line full of excited horror enjoyers from small kids to teens and adults.

“It’s definitely a long wait, but I have high hopes for this,” he said. “I heard that it is high quality, and I’m definitely expecting something relatively scary to give me a good fright in my experience here.”

The scares did not start or end inside; scare actors were there to hold the exit door and scan people in. Byron Burns, a young patron who was brave enough to go through the maze of horror with his five friends, shared his insights into his experiences of the event.

“Us six went through the maze; we had a good time,” he said. It was pretty scary. We had fun, but the maze was pretty hard with a lot of turns and everything; we got lost quite a bit. It was pretty hard to see because the lights were flickering quite a bit. Pretty good experience, would do again.”

Wyatt McDonnell, another young teenager with a desire for a good fright, spoke about his experience as he and his friends treated themselves to snacks and a picture to prove they “Survived the Haunted Union”.

“I really enjoyed the Haunted Union. It was really fun,” he said. “My friends sent me straight to the front, so I got all of the jump scares, so, honestly, it was pretty scary. The actors were really good at scaring, and I really liked it.”
