The High Plains Marching Festival took place on campus yesterday. The festival allows high school marching bands from around the state to learn from the FHSU marching band and perform at Lewis Field Stadium.
Paublo Aguilar, a saxophone player in the FHSU band, said the event is a great way to help others improve.
“This event means being able to see other bands compete and being able to showcase your own band and just a great way to uplift everyone else,” he said.
This year, 17 bands performed, with 13 receiving the highest superior rating.
“We had 17 bands this year, which is the most since the pandemic,” said FHSU band director Aunna Marzen.
One of the main parts of the festival is having so many band members come together and share their love for band.
“Band means so much to me,” said FHSU baton twirler Hannah Pahls. “I thank Fort Hays for giving me the opportunity to do what I love here in representation of our school.”
