Move-in week brings in an excited freshman class

As the first day of classes approaches, as does a familiar tradition throughout campus — move-in week for Fort Hays State University freshmen.

Moving in looks quite different this year from last year; no longer needing to wear a mask and having student organizations on hand to help with move-in has been a tradition many have missed when it comes to freshmen moving in.

“Move-in is a lot more lively this year; it’s nice having all of the student organizations helping so freshmen aren’t as scared, and the freshmen are a lot more prepared and ready to get back to school,” said Brayden Winters, a community assistant who had experienced last year’s move-in as well.

Move-in week started with Victor E. Village and moving all of the Living Learning Communities to the dorm on Tuesday.

The yard of Victor E. was filled with lots of smiles, nerves, and excitement as many student organizations and the football team helped new freshmen carry their items to their new home-away-from-home.

“I’m excited to meet new people, live in a new place, and be able to branch out,” said Caitlin Burr, a freshman who is living in Victor E. Village.

Students were greeted again with lots of Tigers eager to help with move-in again on Wednesday as the communities of Hansen, Agnew, Heather, and the Honors College moved in and then for a final move-in day on Thursday as the Tigers living in McMindes moved in.

Freshman will get their own unique orientation to FHSU with many activities throughout their first weekend on campus with the tradition of Welcome Weekend, which offers many opportunities for students to get involved and meet new friends.

Stay tuned to TMN for more from Welcome Weekend.
