For years, women\u2019s sports have taken a back seat to their counterparts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is beginning to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiger Media Network summer interns Parker Nisbeth, Taylor Roetzer and Kaden Warner spent their summer covering the KC Diamonds of the Professional Softball League, both in their inaugural seasons. The trio spent two weeks in Kansas City, Kansas, filming interviews and multiple games to prepare for the release of their documentary, \u201cNot Done Yet.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiger Media Network is the student-produced convergent media hub at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.<\/p>\n\n\n

The documentary shines light on the importance of women\u2019s sports, how players are inspiring the next generation and what it means to be a professional athlete. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNot Done Yet\u201d also focuses on the support a professional team needs to succeed. Team President Jeremy McDowell prefers the word partnership over sponsorship because the Diamonds like to give back to the community that is helping the team grow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGrowing up, I\u2019ve seen men\u2019s professional sports most of my life,\u201d Warner said. \u201cI\u2019ve never really been on the creative side of sports, so this was a fun way to push myself in a new direction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During an approximately eight-week period, the three students combined to film, edit, script and conduct interviews while given unfiltered access to everything involving the professional team. Using skills they learned in classes and from TMN, the final product runs approximately 30 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHaving an all-access pass was beneficial to us telling the story,\u201d Nisbeth said. \u201cJeremy and the players immediately understood our vision and helped us achieve an unfiltered look.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nisbeth, Roetzer and Warner all came into the TMN summer internship with diverse backgrounds in sports, ranging from live broadcasting to photography and videography \u2014 creating a dynamic fit for coverage of a new professional softball team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nisbeth and Roetzer have taken the Advanced Video Production course, but this documentary is the first project of this magnitude for all three students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs I\u2019ve photographed countless softball games, I liked seeing these women\u2019s intense love for their game,\u201d Nisbeth said. \u201cWomen\u2019s sports are taking over.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is the type of work I hope to pursue after college, so having the opportunity to be a part of history and document Kansas City\u2019s first professional softball team has been such a surreal experience,\u201d Roetzer said. \u201cI can’t wait to see the continued growth of women’s sports and the impact this league will have.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will be TMN\u2019s fourth feature documentary produced by summer interns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They continually pushed themselves to deliver a great documentary that highlights the importance of female sports and additional opportunities for women. These three are a prime example of why FHSU students are some of the best in the U.S. among any university and make headlines in national competitions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
