Taking into account that tuition is a small portion of the money that helps run the campus, SGA President Jackson Sinsel’s tuition recommendation letter recommended a 4% to 8% increase. That aligned with FHSU’s mission and vision of keeping education accessible.

Mason is recommending an increase of 6% ($9.78 per credit in state, $34.43 per credit out of state) for on-campus students and a 4% ($10.60) increase for online students.

That still leaves Fort Hays more affordable than any university in Kansas.

Also, the increase is the best of a bad situation, she said. A 6% increase was the lowest feasible amount. All other increases were 15% or more.

The first reading of the tuition recommendation to KBOR is in May, with the second and voting in June.

The new executive staff was named at Thursday’s meeting.

Treasurer: Caden Becker

Public relations director: Anna Briggs

Campus relations director: Danika Szopinkski

Legislative affairs director: Mayan Paz

Sinsel and previous SGA Vice President Brenna Schwien gave their final speeches.

Incoming SGA President Marcell Dely and Vice President Justin Nealson were sworn in and gave welcome speeches.

Announcements

Convocation is at 3 p.m. May 8.

Jammin’ into Summer will be from 6 to 9 p.m. May 8 in the Gross Memorial Coliseum parking lot.

SGA will reconvene next fall.

By ABIGAIL SHEARER Tiger Media Network At Thursday night’s Student Government Association meeting, President Tisa Mason began by thanking the Senate and the student body…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[3398,11

post-97284","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-campus-news","category-news

https://i0.wp.com/tigermedianet.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Student-Government-Association-scaled.jpg?fit=2560%2C1435&ssl=1
["GET
