The Hays Public Library\u2019s bookmobile is making its way across Hays this week, bringing books, movies and digital resources directly to residents and expanding access beyond the library\u2019s walls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scheduled public stops included ARC Park on Monday. On Wednesday, the vehicle will be at Wyndam Place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and near Beach\/Schmidt Performing Arts Center on campus from noon to 2 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bookmobile regularly travels throughout Hays and Victoria, visiting a variety of locations such as parks, schools, nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and community events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe bookmobile is one of our outreach services and a way to take the library into different parts of the community,\u201d said Callie Kolacny, communications coordinator for Hays Public Library. \u201cIt helps us reach people who may not always be able to visit the library building.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mobile library carries a wide selection of materials for all ages, including fiction and nonfiction books, DVDs and Blu-ray movies. Anyone with a Hays Public Library card can check out items, and for those who don\u2019t yet have one, cards can be created on-site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll you need is a photo ID and proof of your current address,\u201d Kolacny said. \u201cWe try to make the process simple so more people can take advantage of what we offer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to physical materials, the bookmobile is equipped with Wi-Fi, allowing people nearby to connect to the internet. The vehicle is also handicap-accessible, featuring a lift to ensure individuals with mobility challenges can easily enter and use its services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want to make access as easy and inclusive as possible,\u201d Kolacny said. \u201cWhether someone is at a park with their family or living in a care facility, they can still connect with library resources.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While many stops are open to the public and promoted on the library\u2019s website<\/a> and social media, some visits \u2014 such as those to daycares and nursing homes \u2014 are private.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe bookmobile allows us to reach a wider audience,\u201d Kolacny said. \u201cIt\u2019s about meeting people where they are and making sure everyone has access to books, information and opportunities to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
