{"id":88279,"date":"2025-08-15T11:42:21","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T16:42:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=88279"},"modified":"2025-08-15T11:42:34","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T16:42:34","slug":"city-commission-approves-grant-funding-for-high-plains-mental-health-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=88279","title":{"rendered":"City Commission approves grant funding for High Plains Mental Health Center"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By ALICIA FEYERHERM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Tiger Media Network<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The City Commission approved $45,481 in grant funding for High Plains Mental Health Center (HPMHC) during Thursday\u2019s City Commission meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HPMHC will use these funds to purchase seven sobering\/detoxification chairs and seven large-volume infusion pumps for the new crisis intervention center.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The center is set to open toward the end of this year and would be the closest center of its kind for 28 western Kansas counties.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis funding would go a long way to have the specialist chairs that provide that medical sobering and detox,\u201d HPMHC CEO Craig Poe said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These grant funds originate from the National Opioids Settlement and are distributed by the State to municipalities. Hays Chief of Police Don Scheibler said the funds are not dispersed on a regular schedule and come from several different companies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt comes in chunks, too and there\u2019s no rhyme or reason to it,\u201d City Manager Toby Dougherty said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year $56,893 of Opioid Settlement funds were included in the budget. Of the estimated&nbsp; $2.9 million in construction costs, 70% would be paid by the property owners, with the other 30% paid by the developer.
