Every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., the Hays Public Library transforms into a creative hub as adults gather for the weekly Crafters Social Hour. The event takes placec in the community commons, and offers a welcoming space for knitting, crocheting, sewing, and exploring new hobbies\u2014whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just starting out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCrafter\u2019s Social Hour is a program where crafty people come together to socialize and work on their projects,\u201d said Cataloging Coordinator Sara Doyle. \u201cIt came about through requests from the public wanting a designated time to work on projects and meet new people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants are invited to bring their own projects, learn the basics of a new craft, or simply enjoy the company of fellow creatives. Whether it\u2019s knitting, crocheting, embroidery, cross-stitch, or another favorite pastime, there’s something for everyone during this relaxed, hour-long gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis group is mostly a \u2018bring your own project\u2019 group; however, we love to teach our crafts, so we also keep supplies on hand to teach others, especially knitting, crochet, and cross-stitch,\u201d Doyle said. \u201cWe believe all hobbies are crafts, so occasionally you\u2019ll see artists sketching, people coloring, bakers sharing treats, or even inventors looking for feedback.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the Crafters Social Hour is designed with adults in mind, the library provides coloring pages to help keep children entertained for those who need to bring them along. Teens with an interest in crafting are also warmly welcomed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s geared toward adults, but we are very flexible with ages,\u201d Doyle said. \u201cWe understand that it’s not always possible to get a babysitter, so we often provide coloring pages for young kids, and we enjoy it when teens want to join us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though the event emphasizes socializing, the tone varies from week to week. Some sessions are peaceful and quiet, allowing attendees to work in solitude, while others are filled with lively conversation about crafts, family, vacations, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe atmosphere can change from week to week,\u201d Doyle said. \u201cSometimes the group really wants a quiet hour with no distractions, and other times, we have vibrant discussions.
