Senior\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/da90993e-a14b-4b42-be9c-9792dbb46fa2?elinkdata=251877\">Nolan Churchman<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0sits in third place after the first four events of the men&#8217;s heptathlon, while junior\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/e959a923-8539-43c4-96a7-19b5f6a688f8?elinkdata=251877\">Annabeth Baalmann<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0secured a top-10 finish in the women&#8217;s pole vault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Churchman, a six-time All-American, wasted no time making an impact in the multi-event competition. He clocked in at&nbsp;<strong>6.98 seconds<\/strong>&nbsp;in the&nbsp;<strong>60-meter dash<\/strong>, winning and earning&nbsp;<strong>889 points<\/strong>&nbsp;to start the day. He followed up with a strong&nbsp;<strong>long jump<\/strong>, landing a mark of&nbsp;<strong>23-2.00<\/strong>&nbsp;for&nbsp;<strong>828 points<\/strong>. In the&nbsp;<strong>shot put<\/strong>, he recorded a throw of&nbsp;<strong>40-9.50<\/strong>, just short of his personal best and adding&nbsp;<strong>633 points<\/strong>&nbsp;to his total. Churchman then closed out the day on a high note, clearing&nbsp;<strong>6-6.00<\/strong>&nbsp;in the&nbsp;<strong>high jump<\/strong>, which earned him&nbsp;<strong>785 points<\/strong>. His combined score of&nbsp;<strong>3,135 points<\/strong>&nbsp;puts him in&nbsp;<strong>third place<\/strong>&nbsp;heading into Day 2, well in contention for another All-American finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<strong>women&#8217;s pole vault<\/strong>, Baalmann finished&nbsp;<strong>10th overall<\/strong>, clearing&nbsp;<strong>13-4.50<\/strong>&nbsp;to cap off a historic season. The junior entered the championships ranked fourth nationally and had already rewritten the school record books multiple times this year. Though she just missed out on another All-American honor, Baalmann&#8217;s top-10 national finish cements her as one of the best vaulters in program history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With one day in the books, the Tigers are off to a strong start at the national meet.
