COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fort Hays State improved to 14-6 overall on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Adams State on Wednesday (Mar. 12). The Tigers won by scores of 8-0 (5 inn.) and 12-6, finishing their quick trip to Colorado 3-1. FHSU hit five home runs on the day, including four in the first game.\u00a0Lilly Mohr<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0hit two bombs in the first contest to tie the FHSU single-game record, accomplished for a 33rd<\/sup>\u00a0time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fort Hays State 8, Adams State 0 (5 inn.)<\/strong>
Fort Hays State used the long ball to generate six of their eight runs in a run-rule victory over Adams State. The Tigers did all of their offensive damage from the second through fifth innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sisters Lilly Mohr<\/a><\/dfn> and Lexi Mohr<\/a><\/dfn> accounted for three of the four Tiger home runs in the game. Lexi walked in front of Lilly in the second inning and Lilly launched a two-run homer to put the Tigers up 2-0. Then a Paige Thexton<\/a><\/dfn> double set up a Jules Bosco<\/a><\/dfn> RBI single later in the inning to make it 3-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lilly delivered another blast in the third inning, this time a solo shot to make it 4-0. Kaydawn Haag<\/a><\/dfn> and Jules Bosco<\/a><\/dfn> had back-to-back doubles in the fourth to make it 6-0, then Madison Pierce<\/a><\/dfn> launched a solo bomb down the left field line to make it 7-0. The Tigers immediately brought the run-rule into effect in the fifth when Lexi launched her home run, a solo shot, to end the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morgan Schmidt<\/a><\/dfn> threw the first two innings of the game and struck out four. Korryn Johnson<\/a><\/dfn> relieved Schmidt in the third and threw three innings, striking out three. Schmidt did not allow any hits, while Johnson allowed two. Johnson picked up the win in relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fort Hays State 12, Adams State 6<\/strong>
A six-run sixth inning was the difference maker for the Tigers in a 12-6 win over the Grizzlies in the second contest of the day. FHSU held a 3-1 lead through three and a half innings before Adams moved in front 4-3 with a three-run bottom half of the fourth. With the big inning, FHSU jumped on top 9-4 and then added three more runs in the seventh to finish the game with a sizable lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early in the game, Lexi Mohr<\/a><\/dfn> hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1 in the second. The Tigers scored a go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the fourth and then Mohr had another RBI, this time on a single to make it 3-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Down 4-3 in the sixth, Kaydawn Haag<\/a><\/dfn> tied up the game with an RBI single and then Madison Pierce<\/a><\/dfn> put the Tigers back in front with a two-RBI single. Abbey Duarte<\/a><\/dfn>eventually capped the big inning with a 3-run home run, the first of her collegiate career. Up 9-5 in the seventh, Haag added a two-RBI single and a wild pitch scored another run. FHSU went on to win by six.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Savanah Egger<\/a><\/dfn> threw a complete game with seven strikeouts and seven hits allowed. Only four of the six ASU runs were earned. She moved to 6-4 on the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fort Hays State will be back in action at home this weekend on Sunday when University of Mary comes to Hays for a doubleheader. Start time is set for 12 p.m. at Fleharty Family Field.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
