KEARNEY, Neb. – The Fort Hays State men’s wrestling team combined to pick up 25 wins at the Younes Hospitality Open Saturday (Nov. 23) at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drew Bell<\/a><\/dfn> notched a pair of victories on the consolation side of the elite 149 bracket, picking up a win via decision against a teammate before dominating in a 16-0 technical fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cody Castelline<\/a><\/dfn> and Andrew Honas<\/a><\/dfn> were the only Tigers to win their first bout of the day in the elite division, both doing so in the 133 bracket. Castelline picked up a 7-0 decision, while Honas notched a 3-2 decision to reach the quarterfinals. Both then bowed out after dropping their next two matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five different Tigers finished the day 1-2 after picking up a win via decision in the consolation bracket, including Marcell Dely<\/a><\/dfn> at 157 pounds, Hunter Harris<\/a><\/dfn> and Jacob Judd<\/a><\/dfn> at 165 pounds, Connor Padgett<\/a><\/dfn> at 174 pounds and Ryan Patterson<\/a><\/dfn> at 197 pounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Competing unattached, D’Andre Brown<\/a><\/dfn> earned a pair of wins in the elite 133 bracket while eight Tigers combined for 14 wins in the amateur division. Brown won his first two bouts in the consolation bracket with a decision and a sudden victory win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houston Frank<\/a><\/dfn> led the team with four wins on the day, going 4-2 overall. He reached the quarterfinals of the amateur 174 bracket with a first period fall and two decisions. The freshman picked up another win via decision before bowing out just before the consolation semifinals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jett Schwartz<\/a><\/dfn> (amateur 133) and Griffin Mitchell<\/a><\/dfn>(amateur 165) both picked up three wins, with Schwartz recording a trio of bonus-point wins with two pins and one major decision and Mitchell notching one technical fall and two decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ernesto Duenez<\/a><\/dfn> secured his first two victories of the season, going 2-2 with one major decision and one decision, while Ayden Presson<\/a><\/dfn> (amateur 141) notched one victory via pin and Griffin Bohanan<\/a><\/dfn> (amateur 165) recorded one win due to a medical forfeit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers will next compete in two weeks when they host Ouachita Baptist for the first MIAA dual of the season on Saturday, December 7 before hosting the annual FHSU Bob Smith Open on Sunday, December 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
