The Fort Hays State University men\u2019s soccer team entered a pivotal weekend of play against two foes near FHSU in the Great American Conference table. The Tigers played Newman, who sat one spot behind FHSU, on Thursday and No. 18 Southern Nazarene, who sits just above FHSU, on Saturday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

FHSU defeated Newman 4-1 and tied Southern Nazarene 1-1 after a last-minute goal by the Tigers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe final result today (Southern Nazarene), was disappointing because we had opportunities,\u201d FHSU Head Coach Alex Nichols said. \u201cWe played a good team. I am proud of my players, and we learned a lot today. At the end of the day, we were a bit unlucky but I am happy with the players even though I am disappointed with the result.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Against Newman, FHSU found themselves down early in the 12th minute of the match as Miguel Silveira found the back of the net. The game featured 30+ winds and Newman played the first 45 minutes with the wind at their backs.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
