Since 1902, Fort Hays State University has been a leader in higher education on the High Plains of western Kansas. Each year, thousands of students come to Hays to attend classes for many different reasons. A few Tiger Media Network students share why they chose FHSU and why it is special to them during this Homecoming week.<\/p>\n\n\n
Fort Hays has a pretty campus with many features of a natural climate. It has a lot of trees, flowers, and an overall clean environment that I enjoy being in, especially at the Quad between classes.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>
Since coming to Fort Hays, I\u2019ve had the privilege of finding work in my career field at Tiger Media Network and have taken lots of photos and written many articles. The newsroom presented me with the many opportunities I\u2019ve found to build my portfolio.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>
There are many spots to hang out inside the campus. Cody Commons is a great spot to eat lunch or relax, and the addition of the screen with movies playing on it makes it even better.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>
The third floor of Memorial Union has a fantastic study area where you can get your coursework done and prepare for exams without having to worry about distractions. The staff that work there are helpful, too.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>
As a photographer, sports are my favorite subject to shoot, and football has enabled me to shoot some fantastic shots. The games are fun to watch as well, and the atmosphere is made even better with the crowd. I get to see some hilarious outfits that fans wear, too.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>
While I\u2019ve been on assignment, I\u2019ve been lucky enough to come across and even partake in some fun activities, like the water balloon fight during Welcome Week. It\u2019s been engaging, vigorous and given some much needed socialization since my transfer from a previous school.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>
The people at Fort Hays have been nothing but friendly and welcoming since I got here, and I could not be any more thankful for meeting them and getting to integrate with their climate.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>
The culture at Fort Hays is like the culture around town; it reflects a rugged, do-it-yourself, challenging culture that\u2019s usually found in a small town like Hays \u2013 and that\u2019s just how I like it. It has all the things that make this country what it is, and I couldn\u2019t have been happier to explore it.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>
Hays has a very diverse and tolerant community where people help each other and welcome everyone, which is what I hoped I would get when I moved here. The people are laid-back, easy-going and patient as opposed to the big-city life I\u2019m more used to.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/a><\/a><\/a>
