{"id":80890,"date":"2024-09-16T09:37:16","date_gmt":"2024-09-16T14:37:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=80890"},"modified":"2024-09-16T09:41:32","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T14:41:32","slug":"womens-soccer-wins-first-match-of-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=80890","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s soccer wins first match of season"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SIOUX FALLS, S.D. &#8211; The Fort Hays State University women&#8217;s soccer team secured its first win of the season on Sunday (Sept. 15) against Southwest Minnesota State, capping their weekend in South Dakota.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/54633794-67b7-42dc-8573-3048fa0d0088?elinkdata=236371\">Britney Arneson<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;tallied her first two-goal match as a Tiger, while&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/07f50af2-ff49-4fee-b907-0b24eedf886a?elinkdata=236371\">Allison Worley<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;had the goal to break a tie in the second half.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/1e2c4c16-7abb-4530-adc6-bd8f3a909dc5?elinkdata=236371\">Gracen Chaney<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;recorded two assists in the match off of corner kicks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fort Hays State struck first when&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/cdffc3d7-7500-4c4a-a9b7-2b5cfe2c1a24?elinkdata=236371\">Britney Arneson<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;found the back of the net, thanks to a well-placed corner from&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/fa895742-b1dd-4658-93c3-7e714a2facfc?elinkdata=236371\">Gracen Chaney<\/a><\/dfn>. She charged into the middle of the box and put a strike on the quick moving ball from Chaney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Southwest Minnesota State quickly equalized with a goal from Haley Mason and the teams played to a 1-1 tie by halftime. The first half saw the Tigers controlling much of the play, outshooting the Mustangs 6-3 and registering four shots on goal. They also dominated corner kicks with six before halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the second half, the Tigers capitalized on their offensive chances, firing nine shots and placing three on target.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/113b3a3e-570c-47e2-8694-f9e32d4dcca5?elinkdata=236371\">Allison Worley<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;tallied her first goal of the season in the 50th minute, assisted again by a Chaney corner kick. Worley got a head on another well-placed ball in the box, lifting the Tigers back into the lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arneson solidified the Tigers victory with her second goal of the match in the 86th minute, assisted by both Worley and&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/ea9afeb8-b049-4bb6-b4e3-0cde7693e04c?elinkdata=236371\">Kenzee Godwin<\/a><\/dfn>. The Tiger defense conceded just five shots for the match and&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/aba475b8-a821-48ff-80f8-0acbd43614af?elinkdata=236371\">Mackenzie Caldwell<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;made three saves in goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Tigers go back on the road next week to Southwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday (Sept. 19), then travel to Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday (Sept. 21). FHSU is 1-1-2 through four matches this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Friday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SIOUX FALLS, S.D. &#8211; For the second-straight year in a row, Fort Hays State Women&#8217;s Soccer played to a scoreless draw with Augustana, this time on Augustana&#8217;s home field on Friday night (Sept. 13). It was the third-straight meeting overall that FHSU and Augustana tied. The Tigers moved to 0-1-2 overall on the season, while the Vikings are now 1-1-1 overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Augustana outshot FHSU by a count of 15-7 and placed five shots on target compared to two for FHSU. The Tigers had more corner kick opportunities, holding a 6-4 advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goalkeepers&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/6ad6690d-65f8-44b0-9591-3d78bf067827?elinkdata=236226\">Mackenzie Caldwell<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;(FHSU) and Aaliyah Matthews (Augustana) played the entire 90 minutes. Caldwell had five saves to Matthews&#8217; two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back from her time with Costa Rica at the U-20 World Cup,&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/7c431bd7-8ce2-4028-a98f-b3a33c706aa9?elinkdata=236226\">Montserrat Diaz<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;tied&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/06cced3e-0dd2-4f8f-8e44-c1a8ecb09320?elinkdata=236226\">Sydney Cotter<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;for the team lead in shots, each with two.
