{"id":80686,"date":"2024-09-11T07:53:03","date_gmt":"2024-09-11T12:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=80686"},"modified":"2024-09-11T07:53:05","modified_gmt":"2024-09-11T12:53:05","slug":"golf-teams-both-7th-during-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=80686","title":{"rendered":"Golf teams both 7th during weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BRULE, Neb. &#8211; Fort Hays State Women&#8217;s Golf opened its 2024-25 season with a seventh-place finish in the Battle at Bayside, hosted by the University of Nebraska at Kearney.\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/31e55bd2-a4f0-4a3a-b608-7e8d488e911c?elinkdata=235965\">Avery Blasi<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0led the way for the Tigers with a ninth-place finish individually, the lone Tiger among the Top 10 of the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Tigers recorded team scores of 342 and 334 for a total of 676. FHSU&#8217;s lineup of competitors included five freshmen and one sophomore, with&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/9a9e220f-5874-47e0-a61b-0aea5815591a?elinkdata=235965\">Hayden York<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;as the only returner from last year&#8217;s squad. Nebraska-Kearney&#8217;s A squad won the tournament with a 624, while Northwest Missouri State (640) placed second and Southwest Minnesota State (648) placed third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/3f24a90d-9882-4f00-a24e-8ffb4a3f3885?elinkdata=235965\">Avery Blasi<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;led the way for FHSU on the par-71 layout at the Bayside Golf Course. She carded rounds of 78 (+7) and 80 (+9) for a total of 158 (+16). She carded one birdie in the opening round and three in the second round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teammates&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/b036babe-e674-4eed-b62e-61afcca21156?elinkdata=235965\">Shayla Nordlund<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/6ea65019-be04-47b5-8238-344a79e9ecce?elinkdata=235965\">Hayden York<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;tied for 27<sup>th<\/sup>, each shooting identical rounds of 87 and 84. Nordlund had one birdie in the tournament, while York recorded a birdie in both her first and second rounds.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/644a9fe9-5125-4831-8e27-d1595e494fbc?elinkdata=235965\">Abbie Norris<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;shot rounds of 90 and 86 to place 33<sup>rd<\/sup>, while&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/58b030fc-887b-4084-b956-e1a18997e330?elinkdata=235965\">Kiley Maier<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;carded rounds of 96 and 86 to place 37<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/ff5b8e5a-6ecc-4127-babc-0f6c4a9cfe58?elinkdata=235965\">Emma Walz<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;also competed for the Tigers and shots rounds of 100 and 95, tying for 44<sup>th<\/sup>. Maier had four birdies, while Norris had three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Calie Dockter of Nebraska-Kearney and Madilyne Schlaepfer of Northwest Missouri State tied for the individual title, each shooting 151 (+9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FHSU women will make a return trip to Nebraska in a couple of weeks for the Fall MIAA Preview, hosted by Nebraska-Kearney at the Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney. The tournament is set for September 23-24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Men<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WARRENSBURG, Mo. &#8211; The Fort Hays State men&#8217;s golf team secured a seventh-place finish at The Mule, hosted at Mules National Golf Club in Warrensburg, Mo. The par-70 course saw standout performances from several Tigers, led by&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/3f053ea0-586a-43a0-a6c5-495145176e95?elinkdata=235936\">Cooper Scheck<\/a><\/dfn>, who delivered an impressive third-place individual finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scheck concluded the tournament 4-under par, shooting a total of 206 across three rounds (74, 67, 65). His stellar performance in the final two rounds, going 8-under par, included a remarkable 65 in the third round, the lowest individual round for a Fort Hays State golfer since at least 2010. Scheck&#8217;s 65 also tied for the second-lowest round of the tournament. He finished third overall among MIAA opponents, earning 13 individual conference points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/4d7bf145-b185-4c2e-959e-f17088b89a7b?elinkdata=235936\">Cole Streck<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;also had a solid showing, tying for 22nd place overall. Streck posted his best round of the tournament in round one with a 71, securing a tie for 13th among MIAA competitors and receiving two individual conference points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/1640d4d4-f7a4-4fd1-a39a-0c93169d4d99?elinkdata=235936\">Jacob George<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;tied for 33rd place, shooting rounds of 72, 78, and an even-par 70 to close out the tournament.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/151a61b7-efb2-476e-8eb3-6385840e2e04?elinkdata=235936\">Jackson Rader<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;finished in a tie for 85th with rounds of 78, 80, and 74.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/509de706-dd38-42a7-bad4-56744608dce0?elinkdata=235936\">Ashton Dowell<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;found his best form in the third round, finishing 6-over par and recording two birdies in the round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Tigers made history with their final round at Mules National Golf Club, posting a 2-over par, marking the lowest round ever recorded by the program at this course. Their performance in the final round was tied for the fourth-best round of the week in the field, and the team finished fourth out of 11 teams in the conference standings. This marks Fort Hays State&#8217;s best conference finish at an MIAA event since tying for fourth at the 2013 UCM Heart of America Invitational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Central Oklahoma claimed the team title, finishing as the only team to post a sub-par score for the tournament. UCO ended one stroke under par, defeating second-place Central Missouri (A) by 14 strokes. The Bronchos shot a 277 in the third round, tying for the best round of the tournament. UCO had three players finish in the top 10 individually, including the top two overall finishers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nicholas Canales from UCO won the individual title, finishing 6-under par, with an impressive 7-under par final round.
