The Fort Hays State track and field teams picked up 11 event victories while recording five national qualifying marks at the 2024 FHSU Alex Francis Classic Wednesday afternoon (April 24) at the FHSU Track & Field Facility. The men picked up three provisional marks while the women finished with two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toby Wahlmeier’s<\/a><\/dfn> swift 200m sprint of 21.20 seconds earned him a podium finish and improved his provisional mark. Wahlmeier has DII provisional marks in the 100m and 200m sprints. On the women’s side, Maggie Remsberg<\/a><\/dfn> and Taylor Savolt<\/a><\/dfn> came within half a second of a provisional mark in the women’s 100mH. Remsberg finished second with a personal best 14.52, Savolt finished in 14.66 for a third-place finish. Savolt completed the 100m dash in a quick 12.18, good enough for a national mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the standout moments on the track were the 800m races, where Faith Little’s<\/a><\/dfn> lightning speed propelled her to victory in a dazzling 2:19.25 in the women’s, while Lucorien DeBoest commanded the men’s 800m, crossing the line in an impressive 1:54.97. In the women’s 1,500m, Jaycee Vath’s<\/a><\/dfn> stamina dominated the field with a sensational time of 4:45.49, while Ethan Fisher’s<\/a><\/dfn> tactical prowess secured him a thrilling win in the men’s 1,500m, clocking in at an astonishing 3:57.69.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noah Morenz<\/a><\/dfn> climbed his way up the FHSU’s DII leaderboard in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase with a finish of 9:41.24. Morenz is now seventh in the DII era behind head coach Jason McCullough and teammate Grant Bradley<\/a><\/dfn>. Carsyn Turpin’s<\/a><\/dfn> speed and endurance propelled him to victory in the men’s 5,000m, winning the event with a time of 15:50.04.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the men’s field events, Dayton Williams<\/a><\/dfn> soared to victory in the high jump, clearing an impressive height of 6-9.75, securing not only the top spot but also improving his previous provisional mark. Keamonie Archie<\/a><\/dfn>, whose remarkable leap of 24-2.50 in the long jump clinched the victory. Archie’s long jump marked his personal best and improved his provisional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the women’s field event, Liberty Booker<\/a><\/dfn> showcased her dominance in the throwing events, delivering a sensational performance in the hammer throw with a winning distance of 175-4.0. Booker’s outstanding achievement not only secured her the top position but also earned her a DII provisional mark. Annabeth Baalmann<\/a><\/dfn>demonstrated her prowess in the pole vault, securing victory with a commendable height of 12-7.50. Baalmann’s exceptional performance earned her first place as well as another provisional mark for the sophomore standout. Rounding out the top performers was Rhyann Brown<\/a><\/dfn> in the women’s javelin throw. Brown showcased her javelin skills with a remarkable throw of 137-1.0, securing a second-place finish and a DII provisional mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team will have ample time to get ready for the MIAA Championships set for next weekend (May 3-5). The team will have one more chance to get provisional marks at the Loper Twilight in Kearney, Neb. before heading to Emporia, Kan. for the NCAA Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
