The Tigers fought hard, but the Lopers were too much to overcome with two nationally ranked and five regionally ranked individuals. UNK moved to 14-4 overall and 5-1 in the MIAA, while FHSU is now 6-11 overall and 0-6 in the MIAA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FHSU celebrated Senior Day prior to the match as&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/1904b66c-b13b-4d52-8ef1-2a7afaa61a0f?elinkdata=231784\">Fiorella Mendez<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;is the lone graduating senior on the squad this year. Over four years at FHSU, Mendez has collected over 50 wins in singles and doubles action combined and she had a thrilling singles match on Wednesday against Loper opponent Alexis Bernthal.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/dcf82fa2-2be7-4d6b-8b46-338223db51f5?elinkdata=231784\">Heidi Lubbers<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;also likely played her final home match with sister Hope in exhibition doubles as she plans to focus on her educational goals in her upcoming senior year of 2024-25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mendez fell in the first set of her singles match with Bernthal 6-1, but battled back for a 6-4 second set win to force a third-set tiebreak. Mendez battled Bernthal throughout the tiebreak forcing a win-by-two situation, but unfortunately Bernthal, a regionally ranked player, won the tiebreak 12-10. Mendez was the only Tiger to take her match to three sets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nebraska-Kearney&#8217;s top five singles players were all regionally ranked, but the Tigers still put up a valiant fight. At No. 1 singles,&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/d9762832-e6c7-470d-9e80-e2fca50e38d7?elinkdata=231784\">Shreethika Vangala<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;had a few set point opportunities against regionally ranked Melisa Becerra, but ultimately Becerra rallied to win the opening set 7-5 and went on to win 6-1 in the second.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/d790db9f-3ec9-490e-acb0-fcf21e2a682f?elinkdata=231784\">Irina Alfonso<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;fell to No. 31 nationally ranked Fabiana Gamboa at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/c5fae796-ef0c-460f-8e5b-0866ad702fd8?elinkdata=231784\">Yone Pereiro<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;fell to No. 29 nationally ranked Jazmin Zamorano at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-2.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/826cd623-1b07-4c0b-bf94-b0ddc484e351?elinkdata=231784\">Ines Latorre<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;fell to a regionally ranked Loper in the No. 4 match 6-1, 6-1, and&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/e3bb9db5-5de8-438f-844e-53dab2ff4523?elinkdata=231784\">Grace Unruh<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;fell in her No. 6 match 6-1, 6-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In doubles play, the No. 2 team of Alfonso and Latorre and the No. 3 team of Pereiro and Unruh each fell by scores of 6-3. UNK&#8217;s No. 45 nationally ranked doubles pair of Becerra and Narindra Ranaivo won the No. 1 match over Mendez and Vangala 6-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In exhibition play, the Lubbers twins fell 6-0 in doubles action. In singles exhibition,&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/6034fe53-32e2-40aa-8e71-47cca1fa52d7?elinkdata=231784\">Bethan Gill<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/4db622a5-f4ff-459c-9078-70ea9d9f31c8?elinkdata=231784\">Ines Steeman<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;each came up short by scores of 6-2 and 6-0 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fort Hays State goes on the road for its final four matches of the season.
