MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Fort Hays State track and field teams showcased an outstanding performance today at the KSU Steve Miller Invitational (Feb. 16), securing four first-place finishes and attaining six provisional marks. The day was highlighted by remarkable achievements, including new school records set by pole vaulter\u00a0Annabeth Baalmann<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0and sprinters\u00a0Hayden Albright<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0and\u00a0Reba Mader<\/a><\/dfn>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The men’s 60m dash was a lightning-fast affair, with Eddie McVay<\/a><\/dfn> narrowly missing the podium crossing the line in 6.91 seconds but achieving a personal best in the process. Toby Wahlmeier<\/a><\/dfn> followed closely behind in 6.95, also notching a personal best. Kenny Fritsch<\/a><\/dfn>blazed through the track in 7.01, securing the eighth spot and a personal best, while Carter Cellmer<\/a><\/dfn> and Chason VanDerWege<\/a><\/dfn> gave it their all, finishing in 7.16 and 7.23. In the women’s 60m dash, Tori Poe<\/a><\/dfn> surged forward with power and grace, claiming fifth place in 7.87, her fastest time of the season. Jayme Hagerman<\/a><\/dfn>showcased her speed, crossing the line in 8.14 seconds, securing the sixth spot and a personal best. Nolan Churchman<\/a><\/dfn> dominated the men’s 60m hurdles, storming to victory in 8.72, leaving his competitors in his wake. Taylor Savolt<\/a><\/dfn> led the charge in the women’s 60m hurdles, securing fifth place in 9.01, with Maggie Remsberg<\/a><\/dfn> following closely behind in 9.24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving on to the longer sprints, Hayden Albright<\/a><\/dfn> set the track ablaze in the men’s 200m, claiming second place in 21.42, claiming a personal best as well as provisional mark. Toby Wahlmeier<\/a><\/dfn> showcased his skills, securing the eighth spot in 21.80 seconds, destroying his previous personal best. In the women’s 200m, Tori Poe<\/a><\/dfn>powered her way to seventh place in 25.42, the best time of season on the team. Kinley Brown<\/a><\/dfn> and Taylor Savolt<\/a><\/dfn> followed closely behind in 25.90 and 25.99.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hayden Albright<\/a><\/dfn> continued his dominance in the men’s 400m, claiming first place in a blistering time of 47.47 and marked his name in the history books yet again for breaking the school record. Nolan Churchman<\/a><\/dfn>showcased his speed once again, securing third place in 48.00, the second fastest 400m time of the year on the team and secured himself a spot in nationals. Nakari Morrical-Palmer<\/a><\/dfn>, Maayan Paz<\/a><\/dfn>, and Cole Darling<\/a><\/dfn>displayed their strength and determination, finishing in 51.04, 51.05, and 52.08.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reba Mader<\/a><\/dfn> led the charge in the women’s 400m, securing second place in 56.31, a new school record that’s also good for a trip to nationals. She was third in the books with a performance earlier this year, but puts her name atop the list with this performance. Taylor Savolt<\/a><\/dfn> and Kinley Brown<\/a><\/dfn> followed closely behind in 57.66 and 57.90.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ellie Dusselier<\/a><\/dfn>, Hadley Williams<\/a><\/dfn>, and Kylin Rudzik<\/a><\/dfn>battled it out in the women’s 600y, securing fourth, fifth, and seventh place, in times of 1:37.19, 1:38.87, and 1:41.62. Emery Wolfe<\/a><\/dfn> and Andrew Waller<\/a><\/dfn> showcased their talent and determination in the men’s 800m, securing fifth and ninth place, respectively, in times of 1:58.49 and 2:03.75. In the men’s 1 mile, Emery Wolfe<\/a><\/dfn>, Daniel Bechle<\/a><\/dfn>, and Noah Morenz<\/a><\/dfn> pushed themselves to the limit, claiming fifth, sixth and eighth place in times of 4:23.55, 4:24.12 and 4:27.16 while all breaking their previous personal best marks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carsyn Turpin<\/a><\/dfn> led the pack in the men’s 3,000m, securing first place with a personal best time of 8:56.27, with Daniel Bechle<\/a><\/dfn> and Noah Morenz<\/a><\/dfn> following closely behind in second and third place in times of 8:58.56 and 9:00.49.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the field events, Keamonie Archie<\/a><\/dfn> soared to victory in the men’s long jump, claiming first place with a leap of 23-6.75 feet and a provisional mark. Jace Wentling, Chason VanDerWege<\/a><\/dfn>, Carter Cellmer<\/a><\/dfn>, Noah McGregor<\/a><\/dfn>, and Eddie McVay<\/a><\/dfn> showcased their athleticism, securing sixth, seventh, ninth, tenth, and twelfth place, respectively, with jumps ranging from 20-3.0 to 21-9.5 feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Annabeth Baalmann<\/a><\/dfn> showcased her talent in the women’s pole vault yet again, securing third place in DI competition with a height of 13-0.75 feet. This performance broke the school record that was previously set by Baalmann two weeks ago in Topeka, Kan. Jacob Clark<\/a><\/dfn>, Brady Deges<\/a><\/dfn>, Kurtis McCormick<\/a><\/dfn>, and Nolan Churchman<\/a><\/dfn> displayed their skill in the men’s pole vault, securing seventh, eighth, thirteenth, and fifteenth place for vaulting heights ranging from 14-4.5 to 15-10.25 feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the women’s shot put, Liberty Booker<\/a><\/dfn>, Kieran Burke<\/a><\/dfn>, Kennedy Spaeth<\/a><\/dfn>, Rhyann Brown<\/a><\/dfn>, and Addie Berens<\/a><\/dfn>displayed their strength and skill, securing fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth, and tenth place, respectively, with throws ranging from 31-2.75 to 42-2.2 feet. In the women’s weight throw, Liberty Booker<\/a><\/dfn>, Patrisha Doll<\/a><\/dfn>, Kieran Burke<\/a><\/dfn>, and Kennedy Spaeth<\/a><\/dfn> showcased their power and technique, securing fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh place, respectively, with throws ranging from 39-2.0 to 50-10.0 feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next up for the Tigers is another trip to Topeka, Kan., this time for the 2024 MIAA Indoor Championships next Friday through Sunday (Feb. 23-25).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
