TOPEKA, Kan. – The Fort Hays State track and field teams showcased an outstanding performance today at the Washburn Open and Multis (Feb. 3), securing two first-place finishes and attaining three provisional marks. The day was highlighted by remarkable achievements, including a new school record set by pole vaulter\u00a0Annabeth Baalmann<\/a><\/dfn>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The men’s events kicked off with a burst of speed in the 60m prelims, led by Hayden Albright<\/a><\/dfn> clocking in at 6.99 seconds. Ethan Salmans<\/a><\/dfn> and Nolan Churchman<\/a><\/dfn>displayed electrifying hurdling skills in the 60m hurdles prelims, posting impressive times of 8.46 seconds and 8.64 seconds, respectively. Meanwhile, Taylor Savolt<\/a><\/dfn>emerged as a hurdling sensation in the women’s 60m hurdles, navigating with finesse in 9.03 seconds, later claiming fifth place in the finals with a time of 9.01 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hayden Albright’s<\/a><\/dfn> dominance continued in the men’s 400m, where he blazed through in a rapid 48.88 seconds, just a breath away from his personal best. Trever Medina<\/a><\/dfn> showcased hard work, securing second place in the men’s 800m with a remarkable time of 1:50.74, also notching a provisional mark and establishing the best time of the season so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ethan Fisher<\/a><\/dfn> claimed fifth place in the gritty men’s 1 mile, clocking in at 4:16.82. On the women’s side, Faith Little<\/a><\/dfn> demonstrated determination in the women’s 800m, securing 17th place with a time of 2:21.54. Freshmen Madison Sutterfield<\/a><\/dfn> and Brenna Murphy<\/a><\/dfn>showcased their endurance in the women’s 1 mile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jaret Pfizenmaier<\/a><\/dfn> asserted his dominance in the men’s 3,000m, seizing first place with a commanding time of 8:29.64, accomplishing a personal best as a senior. Regan Hodsden<\/a><\/dfn> left an indelible mark in the women’s 3,000m, claiming first place with a time of 10:01.93, just a little over a second slower than her personal best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Men’s 4x400m Relay sealed the day, securing a triumphant second place with the collective efforts of Hayden Albright<\/a><\/dfn>, Avrey Albright<\/a><\/dfn>, Ethan Lang<\/a><\/dfn> and Nolan Churchman<\/a><\/dfn>. The team’s time of 3:13.97 also earned another provisional mark for the Tigers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Field events witnessed Annabeth Baalmann’s<\/a><\/dfn>extraordinary performance, shattering her personal best and school record with a vault of 12-7.50 feet, surpassing the previous record set in 2018. Brady Deges<\/a><\/dfn> soared to 12th place in the men’s pole vault invite, clearing an impressive height of 14-3.25, while Nolan Churchman<\/a><\/dfn> showcased his prowess in the men’s long jump, claiming 11th place with a remarkable distance of 22-4.50. The women’s shot put showcased strength from Liberty Booker<\/a><\/dfn>, Rhyann Brown<\/a><\/dfn>, Kennedy Spaeth<\/a><\/dfn> and Kieran Burke<\/a><\/dfn>, with Spaeth breaking her personal record by more than two feet, throwing a distance of 37-11.5 feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The teams continue competing next weekend when the teams send athletes to Boston, Mass. For the David Hemery Valentine Invitational as well as the Gorilla Classic hosted in Pittsburg, Kan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
