The Fort Hays State men’s and women’s wrestling teams were on display to the public for the first time during the 2023-24 season Saturday evening (Oct. 21) with the annual Black and Gold Scrimmage. Team black finished the evening on top, winning 41-16 after taking nine of the 14 matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drew Bell<\/a><\/dfn> and Marcell Dely<\/a><\/dfn> both picked up a pair of wins on the evening, including two pins for Bell and one pin and one decision for Dely. Hunter Harris<\/a><\/dfn> also picked up a win via fall, while Connor Padgett<\/a><\/dfn>, Tereus Henry<\/a><\/dfn> and Cason Lindsey<\/a><\/dfn> all recorded major decision victories. The other six matches all resulted in decisions, including a last-second victory by Kevin Honas<\/a><\/dfn> following a takedown just before the final whistle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The women’s team held three exhibition matches midway through the evening, resulting in 10-0 technical fall victories from Josiah Ortiz<\/a><\/dfn> and Piper Cadden<\/a><\/dfn> and a 14-10 decision from Marissa Porsch<\/a><\/dfn>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The men’s squad will return to the practice room for two weeks before officially beginning the season on Friday, November 3 with duals against New Mexico Highlands and Northern Colorado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The women’s team will spend the 2023-24 season practicing and engaging in unattached, individual competition before officially competing as a team in 2024-25. The women will host an individual tournament with the Bob Smith Open on Sunday, December 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
